SYMPHONIC LYRICAL GALA
XABIER ANDUAGA tenor
Lorenzo Alessandrini oboe
GAETANO DONIZETTI
Don Pasquale , overture; "I will look for a distant land ... And if it is", Ernesto's air
La fille du régiment , overture; “Ah! mes amis, that jour de fête! ”, an aria from Tonio
The elixir of love , “How beautiful, how dear”; “Una furtiva lagrima”, arias by Nemorino
ANTONINO PASCULLI
Concerto for oboe and orchestra on themes from La Favorita by Gaetano Donizetti
GIOACHINO ROSSINI
The barber of Seville , overture; "Cease to resist more", air of Lindoro

Xabier Anduaga was born in 1995 in San Sebastian in the Basque Country. In 2016 he participated in the Rossiniana Academy of Pesaro singing Il viaggio a Reims thus beginning a career that has placed him among the greatest Rossinian tenors of today. Rossini wrote very difficult roles for that vocal register, his first Earl of the Barber was Manuel Garcia, father of Maria Malibran and Pauline Viardot, and he was the star of the evening. The final scene of the Barbiere, usually cut, is performed today when an exceptional tenor is available; this is the case of Xabier Anduaga who has already sung the role in St. Petersburg, Rouen, Beijing, Parma and Paris with enormous success. Not only Rossini in the young Basque's career but Donizetti (Lucia and Borgia at the Bergamo Festival) and bel canto. History ... repeats itself: Anduaga studied with Ernesto Palacio and sang with Juan Diego Florez, former guests of the Seasons of the Friends of Music.

CHRISTMAS CONCERT
GABRIELE LAVIA actor
Alessandro Bazan painter, Alfonso Alberti text
SERGEJ PROKOFIEV
Symphony n.1 "Classical"
Pierino e il lupo , symphonic fable for narrator and orchestra

Prokofiev, on his return to the USSR, got into the habit of attending the performances of the Central Children's Theater in Moscow, whose director commissioned him to compose an opera for children. In a short time Prokofiev conceived a symphonic story of about twenty minutes on a text written by his hand and thus Peter and the wolf saw the light in just two weeks. Music in fact very simple, but unique and inspired, designed above all to familiarize young listeners with the instruments of the orchestra. The Classical Symphony was written with the intention of returning to a composition where harmony and orchestration are deliberately "easy" and the tonal base is very evident. Gabriele Lavia is the great actor we all know and goes back to the tradition of the great Pierino performers, from Peter Ustinov to Roberto Benigni.

FRANZ LEHAR

JEAN-BAPTISTE ARBAN
Variations on Vincenzo Bellini's opera Norma , for trumpet and string orchestra
JOHANN STRAUSS JR.
Egyptian March; Quadrille from A Masked Ball
Auf der Jagd, Polka; Bauern, Polka

A "New Year's Concert" as expected: with the Strauss but also with some rarities (including, by Straus Son, a Quadrille from Verdi's Masked Ball ), as Lorenzo Passerini has accustomed us to setting up a curious and exciting showcase that begins with the old Haydn and his instrumentalists who amiably rebel against their patron who does not pay them by stopping playing and abandoning the orchestra one by one after having blown out the candle on their lectern. We will see how " The Goodbye Symphony " works in this historical reconstruction in 2020. And then the solo saxophone, an instrument that is not often heard, with the French Rivier and the South American echoes of Milhaud together with the trumpet soaring on the strings in Casta diva dalla Norma by Bellini in the transcription of the contemporary Parisian Arban. Again, Lehár with the overture from La vedova allegra and the echoes of The Masked Ball in Madrid and La vedova allegra di Genova, which Passerini has just brought to success.

BACH MARATHON

SOLOISTS OF THE ANTONIO VIVALDI ORCHESTRA

JOHANN SEBASTIAN BACH
Brandenburg Concerts 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6
PIERGIORGIO RATTI
Seventh Brandenburg Concerto (world premiere)

All six Bach Brandenburg Concerts in one evening, a rare event. Passerini and his instrumentalists take up the challenge, made even more daring by adding the Concerto no. 7 by Piergiorgio Ratti, today's composer, commissioned for the occasion.
Bach had titled "Concerts for various instruments", wanting to write a real encyclopedia of the concert for solo instrument and orchestra, which here takes its final form. Bach put all his science into it (but Bach is not just science), creating an artistic summa that includes the severe German counterpoint, the Italian cantabile and the French style dance. The solo instrumentalists (hunting horn, trumpet, recorder and transverse flute, harpsichord) are engaged in a marathon-delirium of virtuosity and stylistic rigor.

Sunday 7 February 2021 at 5.00 pm - 4/4 season ticket
WEBER AND SCHUBERT
MARINO DELGADO RIVILLA clarinet
CARL MARIA von WEBER
Abu Hassan , overture - Concerto for clarinet and orchestra n. 1
FRANZ SCHUBERT
Fierrabras , overture - Symphony n. 8 "Unfinished"

Still a very short-lived musician, thirty-one years old; upon his death in 1828, Schubert had composed only the first two movements of this Symphony in B minor, an unusual key. "Who can do anything more after Beethoven?" Schubert wondered sadly. Undoubtedly the Symphony in B minor is an attempt - absolutely successful despite its incompleteness - to give an answer to this question. Work of full maturity is also Fierrabras, a heroic-romantic work completed in 1823. Carl Maria von Weber, father of the romantic opera, will live a little longer, forty years, and tonight we will meet the overture of his early opera Abu Hassan on the text of "The Thousand and One Nights" (still dream) and the Concerto for clarinet and orchestra n.1 , second in fame and prominence only to the Mozart Concerto .
